Working Statement

My work contemplates the ways that form, space, ideas, and experiences may be broken into parts
and what meaning may arrive in the process of reconstruction. I am interested in the fantasy that
tempers one’s engagement with the world—politically and personally.  By cobbling together parts of
landscapes and figures, I explore these cycles of expectation and experience, action and reaction.
Information
In film, through the malleability of time and place,
landscape is given the role of actor within the
narrative.  As Italy stands in for the Wild West,
California plays Afghanistan and romantic nostalgia
walks along with neo-orientalism into the sunset.
In my own work, through abstraction of time and
place, an attempt is made to create a sense of
suspect experience, an off-kilter feeling that lets
one in to its fantasy, yet constantly refers back to
the surface and means of construction.
